Help on interrupting Auto Mission

Hello Pilots!

I have a Pixhawk run quad that I want to do a small proof of concept with.

I want it to be running a pre-recorded mission and through Dronekit/Mavproxy send it a new waypoint or set of waypoints and abandon the original mission.

Is there an example or does anyone have any tips on how this could be done reliably?

Not sure how to do this in a completely automated way, but the way I've seen it done is switch to loiter and while hovering, upload the new mission. Hit Auto, and you are off on the updated waypoints. The old waypoints will be erased though, so you can't resume the previous mission without reloading it.
