Between recent trips out of the U.S., I changed my gimbal to a different (new) chassis. The original chassis had ESC/motor issues, and as I only had a few days between trips, I made a fast switch and put the gimbal on a new chassis.

Without flying, when I fired up the new chassis with the old gimbal, I got some movement in the gimbal, but when I pointed it it below, say, a 45 degree angle, the gimbal stopped working, and the message on my controller said "Contact 3DR support."

IS there still 3DR support? Any ideas what could cause this?

There is still support....chat link from their website works very well.

I'd reinstall the gimbal just to make sure everything is plugged in properly. Also it would not hurt to perform a level calibration as everything ties together in software. Remove any filter and counter balance weights you may have installed on the gimbal that are not factory supplied, prior to performing the level cal.

After Rich's suggestions, if still no joy, try a stick cal which includes the 'tilt' paddle on the controller and the dial.
