Ex-NTSB member calls pilots’ fear of drones ‘baloney’

Common sense is a wonderful and powerful thing. It is really too bad it is so rare.
 
On the one hand, I appreciate that someone of some stature in the industry is trying to calm the alarmism on the issue. I agree that the chances of a drone bringing down an airliner are pretty close to nill.

On the other hand, I think a drone being ingested by a turbofan could pretty easily result in damages and maintenance costs in the hundreds of thousands, if not a million or more dollars, and that alone is ample reason to keep pressure on drone operators for some degree of self control. There is simply no justifiable reason for someone to by flying a drone in the path of an airliner, or any other airplane.
