Compass questions

I noticed yesterday when I put my bird back together, I kept getting a magnetic interference. I turned the compass around on the leg (assuming I installed it backwards) and turns out that's what the issue was.

So my questions are.
Does the compass have to be outside the drone and does it have to be facing down like it does on the leg.

You can change the stock compass installation, but you need to tell the Pixhawk the new compass orientation via the Mission Planner parameters.

So can the compass be in the drone or doesn't have to remain outside?
I want to find the creator of the legless solo that has the whips on the side. So I can ask what he did [emoji23]
Any chance you can point me in the right direction of this?
