Commercial Drone strikes Army Blackhawk

Today in New York a commercial drone struck an Army Blackhawk causing some considerable damage to craft and rotor. At this time they say they do not know who owns / operating .... betting they will find out-

Not a cool situation. The damage didn't look that bad. I'd hope a BlackHawk could survive a drone strike, if not it should.

@USMC86 how do you know it was a commercial drone? I didn't see that mentioned in the NY article I read.

Luckily, no one was injured or killed; betting the drone owner didn’t sleep well last night wondering when the military investigation team is going to knock on his door...not to mention losing his drone. Thinking he probably threw his controller away as soon as the incident occurred- in a neighbor’s trash can, not his own!

I can see the uav laws getting stricter after incidents like these... And I'd be more concerned of the 10 cranky Marine passengers conducting their own "investigations" over the matter.[emoji16]

The guy operating the drone was flying above the 400’ limit inside a TFR. Not sure how any additional laws would have helped prevent this mishap. Stupid people do stupid things.

Pilot flying beyond line of sight, (2 miles), above 400', said he wasn't aware choppers would be flying below 300' in the area.
Some kind of part # on the recovered motor pod allowed DJI to identify the drone owner.
