I have a law degree from the University of Arizona, where I graduated with high distinction, Order of the Coif, and was an editor of the Arizona Law Review. I was selected by the United States Department of Justice under its Honors Program to be a trial attorney with the Antitrust Division, and received a special commendation from the Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division. I have also served on the Executive Committee of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section of the State Bar of California, and have taught antitrust, patent law, copyright and trademark courses as an adjunct professor of law. I am a co-author of the State of California Antitrust Law Jury Instructions. I am a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court, the state bars of both Arizona and California, five federal district courts, two federal courts of appeal, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. I have served as an administrative law judge for the state of California, a special master for the Los Angeles Superior Court, a mediator for the US District, Central District of California, and the Los Angeles Superior Court, and as the General Counsel of the Digital Entertainment Group. The annual Rose and Berg Editor Award at the Arizona Law Review was named after Tim Berg and myself.
I hold a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Arizona, was a member of the Board of Advisors of the University of Arizona College of Science, and was the first chair of the Advisory Board to the UA Department of Physics. I was awarded a Professional Achievement Award from the UA Alumni Association, and was profiled in the American Physical Society journal. I also hold an M.S. degree in Imaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and was elected to the grade of Senior Member of the IEEE.
I was also Managing Director of a boutique intellectual property law firm in Pasadena, California, and was lead patent counsel on numerous patent litigation matters. I have prosecuted many patent applications in optics, imaging, photography, electrical engineering, cryptography and allied fields.
