I haven't done any mods to mine, and no problems. Didn't even open it up to install my gimbal - just made sure cables were tucked away. I haven't flown for a few weeks due to our wet Seattle weather and/or wind - so I hope I haven't jinxed myself.

Yeah, I actually don't recall if the guys I know treat the motors. I know they will immerse servos, ESCs, circuit boards, etc., in Corrosion X (and I think there are other equivalent products out there now). I didn't realize brushless motors were so durable - good info!

If your videos are for personal enjoyment you are fine. If they are used as an adjunct or to advertise your commercial services, you could be fined. Highly unlikely you would be fined however.

My 3DR Iris+ did the same thing on it's maiden flight. About 3 minutes into the flight, all motors stopped and it plummeted 125 feet to the ground, destroying the body, the legs, all but the motherboard. Sent the logs to 3DR who determined it was an ESC failure and they sent a new Iris+ to me...
