I think maybe his question is whether he can convert the frequency.

Seems like a bad idea.
 
The 5.8Ghz card has a large heatsink that may not fit in place of the OEM 2.4GHz card. That's beside the concern that you will likely have reduced range (similar to using the 5.8Ghz band on your home wi-fi - as long as you are relatively close you will get good bandwidth but it doesn't take much distance increase for the bandwidth and signal strength to drop). 2.4GHz will give greater range all things being equal except that in general there is more traffic on that frequency from home cordless phones, wifi and even microwave ovens.
