Remnants of Solo for Sale

I don't know who you are directing your yelling at, but as stated there's nothing for me to justify; I don't own a Solo now.

Whether you want to admit it or not, there is no other FC system currently out there that has the capabilities of Arducopter. While Solo uses much Arducopter code that is open source, there are features that are not open source such as cable cam. No other drone mfr has anything like that of Solo. Then there's mission planning. Yuneec has nothing and as my friend owns a Q500, not being computer savvy he asked me to help him update the firmware and get it ready to fly. Talk about a PITA. Compared to Solo it's a nightmare. While the Typhoon is a nice machine in its basic form, it's features are not that impressive and auto landing is awkward (bounces). In wind, auto landing is horrid, at least when I flew it. Other than that, I like it. (Edited: originally said Typhoon.....is a Q500).

So I ask what FC system can compare to Arducopter/Solo in the consumer market? What FC system has more features, more flight modes, more flexibility, more options than what 3DR has virtually given away for free to the model aircraft/land rover hobbyist? Nobody.

Check out Dronecode, which Chris Anderson is the chair for. Home | Dronecode Yep, there's Yuneec in there as Platinum member, which is a good thing, but 3DR leads the way. Sorry if that hurts. Unfortunately, the consumer market is going to take a back seat now. Commercial is the future. We hobbyists will have fewer and fewer choices as time goes on, and we'll be forced into smaller and smaller units.

Absolutely agree, it's the implementation thereof regarding Pixhawk / Arducopter that I question. I was flying my Phantom yesterday when I thought to myself, "self, I wish I was able to select from many different flight modes". I would venture a guess that if 3DR survives, the Solo will be pretty awesome. The price point however, will need to change as the many existing and upcoming competitors for like birds are less than 1500 all included. Also agree about the Yuneec, I remember firmware updates with that odd cable, and the lack of pre-programmed flight sucks too.

Why is it a simple for sale ad turns into a bitching session "For Some" They NEVER give up. Other than ruining this post for latecomers it is bad form.

Reactions: Solo Keith
After a month and a half of frustration I decided to finally give up on the Solo. First I had purchased a gimbal and could not get it to work properly. Mid flight it kept going limp making the video appear like the Solo was going down, wobbling everywhere. I had installed it three times trying to get the HDMI cord placed properly. It was not until I saw a 3rd party video that explained how to seat it properly that showed how you had to remove the top and unseat the main board, then I was able to get it to work. Really? What a bad joke (on myself and other people who bought Solo) a $2000 drone should not have issues like that. Given the price of the Solo, I was able to lie to myself for a while and convinced myself that it was as good or better than the Phantom. I extolled the virtues of its 55 MPH top speed (which it had never reached) until I realized that it was only supposedly attainable in Manual mode. I had a Yuneec Q500, and without the GPS it was much faster than the Solo. Difference being 3dr uses shady advertising techniques to reel people in, while Yuneec doesn't even mention their top speed. The gimbal feels fragile and I felt like much care needed to be taken when inserting or removing the camera. So I moved my attention to the expansion bay. This would be the feature that made it worth the money. NOT! To this point I have seen nothing special produced for the bay. The best Solo mod I have seen is a way to get the legs out of the picture.
I figured I may as well keep flying and I was beat down again by 3dr false advertising. Long story short, it does not hold altitude in FLY:MANUAL mode and it went sailing into a tree. I bought a new shell and rebuilt it, and the Gimbal worked but was slightly bent so I went out and bought another one. It wouldn't install and kept blinking red. 3dr said it was bad so I went and exchanged it. Guess what? Same problem plus it kept telling me I was using an incompatible Gopro version (Hero 4 Silver). 3dr service is responsive and polite, but in my experience from solution and culpability accepting standpoints, they are no better than DJI.
My Phantom is much quieter, much more responsive, the DJI Go App is far far superior, the GPS puts the Solo to shame as does the range, the camera control is much better than the Gopro, and the Smart Shots were nothing like they said they would be. I use Litchi Magic Leash for Follow me mode as it is useless for me if the Controller needs to be held. I really, really tried to like it, but at the end of the day it just doesn't measure up, especially for the price and I have no tolerance for companies like 3dr with their shady tactics. Obviously nothing personal if you like your Solo, just not for me. So....I have a new gimbal, a slightly bent for parts gimbal, an extra battery, FPVLR antenna, and an upgraded wifi card for sale. If interested let me know.

Hi, sorry you had such a terrible experience. I'm interested in your battery and the little plastic light covers if you still have them.

Sorry for your experience and I can only hope that I don't have anything like yours. However, I will say the GPS lock is absolutely horrendous and should be taken care of by 3DR for those that purchased it thinking it was worthy of being able to fly without the need of upgrades.
Do you still have your battery for sale and if so, how much would you want for it?
