MAV Pilot vs an Android and Tower

Help me if I am wrong.

I use an iPad with my Solo, and as I understand, you need an Android device to run Tower.

I read, and then found out about MAV's Pilot app for iOS, which seems to be the same.

Can anyone comment on my understanding, and if you have used Pilot, how successful have you been?

My understanding is that Mav pilot is best choice for iOS owners but is not near as polished or functional as Tower. The response I have seen from many needing that functionality, is they bought a $150 android tablet to use with Solo so that they could use Tower. Seems reasonable to gain that kind of use. I'd recommend a Nexus 7 (2013). Just my opinion. YMMV

I have an old Samsung 9.4 inch that runs a version of 4.X android.

If you think that would work, I could bypass the purchase of a new tablet or the iOS solution.

Only way to know is to install it. If it actually lets you install it (don't get an incompatible device error), it should work.
