I read somewhere about troubles launching and landing from a boat. I want to get some footage of a boat and its surroundings from the middle of a passage but am concerned that there could be issues. Anyone tried this?
Cheers

Sorry, chances are that you won't even be able to arm and get to fly at all from a boat.

We're waiting for 3dr to release boat mode in the firmware to solve this problem.

Here they start from the boat(00:55), and to the boat(01:15).

Until boat mode is released, the only safe and reliable way to launch is from solid ground on shore.

Yes, you can do it. It's not the fact that it is a boat, it's how much the platform is moving. You can see they were in a calm bay with very little movement. Landing on a boat in manual would not be a problem.

It's not just the ability to get it to take off that needs to be considered. Sure, if the boat stops, and is in still water, and isn't rocking around, you might be able to arm and take off. But as soon as the boat moves again, the RTH function will return the Solo to it's death by drowning. So if your controller craps out or you otherwise lose control, kiss the solo good bye. You need to evaluate ALL the circumstances of the flight. Not just the ability to take off. This goes for any flight anywhere, not just a boat.

If you've evaluated all the factors, risks, and rewards, and are ok accepting those risks, have at it.

Very True. Would definitely want to use the RTM (Return To Me) feature if launching from a boat.
