Is it normal to have to calibrate the compass every time you turn on the solo? I am not apposed to doing it, it's that I just bought it and want to be sure that it doesn't meen that a compass is going bad. Also what would solo do if the compass failed in flight?

Normally you do it once. You may have to do it if you travel . I have traveled more than 2000 miles, and didn't have to re calibrate.
Do the calibration outside, away from any magnetic interference. I have also read that you should face North when calibrating.
