So what's the difference between the new multipoint cable cam and Tower? All the examples I see show the cable cam going in a line, while Tower examples usually show a loop back to the controller. Is that the only difference? Cable cam is a one way trip?

No because it is not mission planning. Also other autonomous features such as survey, structure scanning, etc are not there.

If you are wanting the capabilities of tower I suggest you get a cheap android tablet. Dronekit isn't available for iOS yet and you won't see a tower equivalent for iOS until that is done.
