    Solo motherboard w/Pixhawk $45!!!

I sell the board on Ebay for $49.95 and the cube for $24.95 and the Wifi for $24.95. Usually pretty quick too. I'd say you are reasonable.

    FAA Part 107

I used Gold Seals UAV Ground School. Just make sure you Google for a promo code to knock it down to $150. Also, has for-life access. Used it for a week and then took the test. I am not a self study kinda person so I needed the class. The format is a bunch of short approximately 10 minute videos.

    3dr Y-6 Pixhawk 2.1 Here +

That's great, have fun! I learned from experience that auto tuning in the slightest wind is a bad idea. Mine took forever and went through the entire battery and had a hard landing. Fortunately nothing broke. I'm using Tattu 4s 5200 that I got on sale.

    3dr Y-6 Pixhawk 2.1 Here +

Those props look right. They came with my y6 before I rebuilt. As for calibration, I imagine a box or pretend you have a quadcopter when doing left/right and front/back side. When I rebuilt mine and tried to fly, it wobbled scary bad. I tried reinstalling arducopter and that didn't work...

Curious as to what my bird is worth

Do an Ebay search and then check "completed sales" and adjust order for most recent. This will give you the most accurate market value. I have been able to part them out for about $300 give or take.

    3dr Y-6 Pixhawk 2.1 Here +

Hey there, nice y6. I also fly a y6 and it is my favorite. After flying a few times I had an esc failure at about 20 feet up which gave me an excuse to upgrade. I rebuilt with TBS 30 amp ESCs and genuine SunnySky 880kv from buddyrc while opting for a power squid instead of the 3dr distribution...

1.6 mile flight - then threatened by redneck to shoot down my Solo

I think the thing we can learn from this thread is to be careful. The FAA hobby rules are short and somewhat vague. This is likely on purpose for two reasons. One it is hard for them to regulate a hobby due to the staffing. Second, they probably want to leave room for interpretation depending on...

1.6 mile flight - then threatened by redneck to shoot down my Solo

VLOS as I recall means that the drone is within sight with the naked eye (or prescription eyeware. Binoculars could be used but you must be able to see the drone without them. Flying FPV is allowed but you must be able to fly without them if something were to happen. It is a gray area but you...

1.6 mile flight - then threatened by redneck to shoot down my Solo

Yes, shooting down a drone is a federal offense. In North Carolina it can be a $5000 fine (state law) . But, flying beyond LOS is also a federal offense. Even on a hill, 2 miles away is probably illegal or irresponsible. This is bad for the hobby and the industry. I recommend reading the...

Use 3DR Solo for advanced mapping

Yes the GoPro lens is the issue although some of the photogrammetry software used to process the images can take this into consideration. The question is do you want to spend the money on an action camera designed for cool video and then modify it to take good "aerial imagery" or just buy a...

Use 3DR Solo for advanced mapping

Hey Irishman, I'm going to politely disagree with the idea that upgrading to HERE will increase accuracy. It your Solo is holding its position with the stock GPS you will not increase your accuracy. Be aware that the GPS on the drone if used to get a the images only records where each photo is...

Flying Solo while sitting in a Car?

Your GPS should work fine since it is on the drone. You should be concerned with the WiFi connection. I just got a pair of FRDM drone gloves for Christmas and they are great.

Use 3DR Solo for advanced mapping

You will be using open Drone map for image processing and QGIS for image analysis and georefeeencing the final image. I'm not sure if open Drone map georeferences. It might get really close if the photos are geotagged. Check out arducopter as there is info on some image processing software and...

Use 3DR Solo for advanced mapping

Your original post is a very loaded question and difficult to answer. You must understand that the drone is only used to collect the imagery and not used to process or analyze the data. Opendronemap does the processing and analyzing of the data. I sat in on a conference session of a opendronemap...

    FAA 107 prep courses

Many can certainly pass the exam with nothing but FAA provided materials. Many are also taking practice exams until they have them memorized because they are from a bank. I needed an outlined course to follow because I dont do well self studying. I feel I got a better grasp of the material than...
