I would be cool with stable video at a fixed point if I could control the camera in some way, shape, or form. Like you say it's a lot of work and the Solo may not be the best test dummy when there's ready made options available in the market.

Yuneec is Android based so I'm not sure the exact hurdles and limitations but I would love to find out. In the Solo mods Facebook group I was looking at a PWM board that uses the accessory port. The GH4 would have limited control but enough to get some work out of it.

I would recommend a lens all day long! You'll get a clearer image and you can even get a different perspective by changing up the field of view. But I will add that you're chasing diminishing returns, if this is just for fun find a good deal on a newer GoPro and call it a day.

Linear mode is still just a software fix. Its fine for the 90% but not for the best possible footage.

If you go for the 3.97 or a 3.8mm even you won't have artifacts from lens correction in your shots, anything you correct with software is of lower quality than straight from the camera. Don't worry about losing field of view, they are still very wide lenses and will capture what you need. I...
