Were you using "World VFR" or your area sectional in skyvector? If you were on World VFR setting it could bog down your device, maybe try the sectional for your area only. Also you can deselect METARs too, in the end I guess it would be close to vfrmap without the hassle so disregard. lol

Thanks for sharing your experiment! Lasers is one major concern when I fly night VFR in a helicopter. I have the city lights to aid my visual reference and if I lose that it can be a major pucker factor.

Honestly I have never messed around with any radio nav aid like VOR/DME or VORTAC on skyvector.
